About Calvin

Calvin first began his work with children and adolescents after receiving his bachelor’s degree in special education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah Oklahoma in 2006. After working for several years as an educator, he returned to school and received his master’s degree in School and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Arkansas in 2017. While in his program, he received training in Child Centered Play Therapy as well as Adventure Based Counseling techniques.

Calvin has over twenty years of experience working with children and adolescents in some capacity. He was a special education teacher, mental health paraprofessional, substitute teacher, and most recently a school counselor. His work with students and children also comes from a variety of settings including public schools, private practice, therapeutic day treatment facilities, and residential hospitals.

Calvin aims to meet children and adolescents where they are on their journey and believes that through play, adventure, and experiential learning kids are better able to figure out how to manage their own emotions, behaviors, and find more effective ways to communicate with those around them. He believes that all behavior is purposeful and goal oriented and that in order to make any real changes, it must begin from within.

When he is not in the counseling office, Calvin enjoys spending time with his family of five and getting outdoors in NWA. As a soccer family, weekends are often spent traveling to and from regional games and tournaments. Calvin is also an avid fly fisherman and loves to kayak and fish the clear water streams in the area when possible!
