Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know before your first visit, and if we missed something, we're one phone call away.
Do you accept insurance?
Many of our clinicians are in-network with major insurance plans, and coverage varies by provider. When you call, our team verifies your benefits and matches you with a clinician who accepts your plan, so there are no surprises at your first visit.
How much does counseling cost without insurance?
Rates vary by clinician and service. Call (479) 621-0301 and our team will walk you through current fees and self-pay options before you book anything.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We respond to every appointment request, and with five offices and a full clinical team, most new clients are seen quickly. Availability varies by clinician and location.
What happens at the first appointment?
Your first session is a relaxed conversation. Your therapist will ask what brought you in, learn some background, and work with you to set goals. There's nothing to prepare, just come as you are.
How long does therapy usually last?
It depends on your goals. Some concerns improve meaningfully in a couple of months of weekly sessions; deeper work can take longer. You and your therapist will review progress regularly, and the pace is always yours to set.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, within the limits of the law. Therapists are required to break confidentiality only in specific situations, such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly at your first visit.
What ages do you work with?
All ages. We provide play therapy for children ages 3–12, counseling for teens and adults, plus couples and family therapy.
How do I know which service I need?
You don't have to figure that out alone. Tell us what's going on when you call or submit the contact form, and we'll recommend the right starting point, individual, couples, family, or play therapy.
Can I choose or change my therapist?
Yes. We'll suggest a match based on your needs, location, schedule, and insurance, but the choice is yours, and switching to a different clinician is simple and judgment-free.
What is play therapy and how does it work?
Play therapy is an evidence-based approach for children ages 3–12 that uses play, a child's natural language, to help them express feelings, process hard experiences, and build coping skills. Parents receive regular updates and at-home strategies.
What is Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)?
NET is a structured mind-body technique that helps identify and release stress patterns the body holds on to after difficult experiences. It complements traditional counseling rather than replacing it. Ask about availability when you call.
What should I do in a mental health emergency?
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. Our offices are not equipped for emergency care.
What is counseling and how does it work?
Counseling is a structured, confidential relationship with a licensed mental health professional. You meet regularly, usually weekly at first, to understand what you are struggling with and build practical ways to change it. It is active work with proven methods, not just venting. Most people start feeling movement within the first several sessions.
How much does therapy cost with insurance?
With in-network insurance, most people pay a copay or coinsurance per session after any deductible, often much less than the full session rate. The exact amount depends on your plan. Call (479) 621-0301 and our team will verify your benefits and tell you your real cost before your first visit.
How do I find the right therapist near me?
Start with three filters: a clinician who treats your specific concern, accepts your insurance, and has availability you can sustain. Then use the first session or two to judge fit. Our guide on choosing a therapist walks through it step by step, or skip the search and let our team match you.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain finish processing distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. It is best known for trauma and PTSD and is also used for anxiety. Water's Edge offers EMDR with EMDRIA-certified expertise on our team.
Is marriage counseling covered by insurance?
Sometimes. Insurance covers treatment of a diagnosed condition in an identified patient, and some couples work fits that structure while some does not. Coverage varies more than for individual therapy, so ask us and your insurer before the first visit. Many couples choose self-pay for simplicity and privacy.
Do you accept Medicaid or Medicare?
Yes, several of our clinicians are paneled with Medicare and Arkansas Medicaid, which is rarer in private practice than it should be. Acceptance varies by clinician, so call (479) 621-0301 with your plan details and we will match you with someone who can see you.
Should I see a therapist or a psychiatrist?
A therapist provides counseling: skills, processing, and change through structured conversation. A psychiatrist or psychiatric provider prescribes and manages medication. Many people benefit from one or both. Start with whichever feels right; our team offers counseling at every office plus telehealth medication management, and we will help you figure out the right combination.
Do you prescribe medication?
Our practice offers telehealth medication management with limited availability, alongside counseling. If medication is part of your care, ask when you call and we will tell you what is open, or coordinate with your existing prescriber.
